As a missionary, you oftentimes find yourself in places where you'd least expect it.
Like the parable of the guest who chose the "back seat" at the feast, who was then moved to the highest place of honor (Luke 14:7-11),
I have experienced something similar in my ministry here in Malawi.
I am a 4th grade teacher at ABC Christian Academy, a growing international school of 290 students located in the capital city of Lilongwe, and
I strive to be involved in my students' lives both in school and out of school. Our humble beginnings in the swim program 5 years ago have now born
fruit beyond our expectations! The afternoon activities at the pool centered around developing Christ-like sportsmanship, team building, friendly
competitions, and improving stroke technique in swimming.
Two years ago, the Academy finished constructing its very own seven-lane, 25 meter saline swimming pool, largely funded by a Jewish businessman whose
children attend our school. This has opened the door for more interaction with other international schools of Malawi in the area of swimming. It was a
tremendous privilege to host the CANA Zone 4 Subsaharan swimming competition in January 2008, where 10 countries attended and 260 swimmers participated.
The Malawi team came in third place and we were all proud of their achievement. To our great surprise, the Malawi Sports Council has asked the Malawi Aquatic Union
to select two swimmers to attend the Olympics in Beijing. This is a great honor, to say the least, and we pray that God will continue to bless our endeavors!
